A Successful Pilot for FACE-GenTX Partnership in Coastal Bend

Fathers and students involved in FACE programs have gained a whole new set of tools to help them become college and career ready –thanks to GenTX, a new campaign created by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB).

In Fall 2012, FACE worked with Coastal Bend Partners for College & Career Readiness to implement the FACE GenTX Father Student College Readiness Campaign in four Coastal Bend region school districts.

As a result of the campaign, more than 200 fathers and students, respectively, plus over 100 teachers, learned about how to prepare for college at the middle school level, apply to college, and get financial aid, utilizing emerging online resources such as GenTX.org.

The Campaign’s 12 on-campus father/student activities culminated in a college “interdistrict” rally hosted by Collegiate High School (CHS) and Del Mar College.  Dads and students from the four districts met each other for the first time through interactive activities facilitated by FACE and Dr. Tracie S. Rodríguez, CHS Principal. The middle school teams also met students, instructors, and officials from CHS/Del MAR and used the CHS computer labs to create profiles on the www.GenTX.org site.

The FACE-GenTX experience involved four middle schools or junior highs from Beeville ISD, Taft ISD, Robstown ISD, and West OSO ISD. See photo gallery here.
